THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Wednesday, warned that the lecturers will commence their strike, following the refusal of public universities across the country to implement the 2009 ASUU/FGN Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The Delta State chairman of the union, in Anwai campus of the Delta State University (DELSU, Abraka), Emmanuel N. Mordi, who was flanked by four executive members of the union, said unless the July 2011 agreement was upheld, the sector of the economy would witness another upheaval.
He lamented that two years after the signing of the 2009 ASUU/FGN agreement, which was intended to arrest and reverse the rot in our universities, most of the campuses had nothing to cheer about.
Under funding, low patronage and lack of private sector contributions, he said, were the basis for the proposed indefinite strike.
