An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday sentenced a man and a woman to eight years’ imprisonment for burglary and theft of valuables belonging to a another woman.
Hammed Waheeb, 32, and Rasheedat Ogunmade, 27, who have no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The Magistrate Bukola Mogaji sentenced waheeb to five years’ imprisonment without an option of fine on the three counts and for luring Ogunmade into the act.
Mogaji sentenced Ogunmade to three years’ imprisonment on the three counts, also without an option of fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the convicts committed the offences in May at 2:00p.m. on Ganiu Rabiu Close, Ketu, Lagos.
Ihiehie said that the convicts broke into the house of one Mrs Bilikisu ogunsanya, used an iron bar to break her door and stole cell phones and jewelries, all valued at N340, 000.
“The convicts stole a Gionee phone valued at N120, 000, a wristwatch worth N30, 000, jewelleries worth N180,000, and N10, 000,” he submitted.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the offences contravened Sections 411, 307 and 287 of the Criminal Law of 7Lagos State, 2015.
