2 men arraigned over alleged assault, membership of secret cult

) Two men were on Monday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault and membership of an unlawful society.

The defendants -Tejumola Yekini , 20 and Ishola Raimi, 40, – both residents of Ijora-Badiya in Lagos State, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and belonging to Nan unlawful society.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the duo committed the offences on June 16 at 8.15 p.m. at Mosalashi Bus Stop,  Ijora Badiya area of Lagos.

Eruada said that the defendants and others still at large conspired and assaulted one Alhaji Farouk Olayemi by using a cutlass to inflict injuries on his head .

“The duo assaulted the complainant by cutting him with a cutlass causing him bodily harm.

“They also conducted activities of an unlawful society known as ONKE confraternity and AKOSILE confraternity,” Eruada said.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 42 (a), 173, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, M.I Dan-Oni, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in the like sum.

Dan-Oni ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and possess evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until July 17 for mention.
