2 men face trial for alleged theft in Lagos

The police, on Tuesday, arraigned two men before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property valued N50,000.

Anthony John, 24, and Chinoso Eze, 28 of no fixed address, are facing a two- count charge of stealing and unlawful escape from custody, an offence to which they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Aug. 11 at about 5:30 a.m. at No 175, Police Bus Stop, Shibiri Road, Ajangbadi, Lagos.

Okuoimose said that the defendants stole one Yamaha generating set valued N30,000 and one tiger generating set valued N20,000, property of one Pastor Godswill Onyechimereze.

The prosecutor said that the total value of the property stolen stood at N50, 000.

He said that John, unlawfully escaped from custody at Ilemba Hausa Police station in Ajangbadi.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Section 287 and 106 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Sept. 25 for further hearing.
