Two men, Alex Odia, 32 and Michael Onyegbuna, 65, who allegedly conspired to steal a car stereo with a chrome, were on Wednesday brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The defendants are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and wilful damage.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, said that the defendants committed the offences on Sept. 30, 2018 at No. 5, Oseni St., Off Moduoe Johnson Crescent, Surulere, Lagos.

Okoliko said while the defendants were trying to steal the car stereo with a chrome of a Toyota Prado Jeep, they wilfully damaged a driver side mirror, all totalling N1.1 million.

He said that the defendants were arrested following the complaints of stolen of car parts in the area.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The offences contravened Sections 287, 350 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that Section 287 attracts three years imprisonment for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, granted each of the defendants bail of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
