2 unemployed youths docked over attempted theft of ATM card

Two unemployed men, Mustafa Sa’ad, 27, and Mu’azam Sabo, 21, on Friday appeared before a Senior Magistrate Court in Kano for charged with attempted theft of ATM card.

The defendants , who reside at Tudun Maliki Quarters, Kano, denied committing the offences when the two-count charge of trespassing and attempting to steal property were read to them.

The Prosecutor, ASP Muhammad Bakori, told the court that the defendants and one Abba Aliyu, now at large, committed the offences on March 17, on Murtala Muhammad Way, Kano.

He said that the defendants criminally conspired and went to UBA Bank ATM Gallery on Muratala Muhammad Way, Kano, with intention to swap the ATM card of one Umar Ya’ u,.

Bakori said that but in the process, the ATM card got hooked.

“Two ATM cards with different names were found in their possession,” he said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 97, 342 and 402 of the penal code.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Fauziya Sheshe, granted the defendants N200,000 bail each with two sureties each in the like sum.

She said one of the sureties must be biological fathers of the defendants and adjourned the case until Sept. 9 for continuation of hearing.
