Belemaoil Chair Lauds Unilag Over Appointment Into Entrepreneur Centre Board — Leadership Newspaper

Chairman of the board of Belemaoil Producing Limited, Mr. Nedo Osayande, has applauded the University of Lagos for appointing him as a member of the newly constituted board of the institution’s Entrepreneurship Centre.

The newly constituted board has the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university, in-charge of Development Services, Professor Folasade Ogunsola as Chairman with fifteen notable professionals drawn from the academia, oil and gas industry, civil engineering, information and communication technology (ICT) and the business community as members.

Osayande, who spoke in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, the board offers great opportunities for industries to meet with the academia in the pursuit of entrepreneurship backed by technology and innovation.

He said it is imperative to bring together men and women of like minds who have excelled in different fields of endeavours to build an entrepreneurial capacity to get Nigeria out of the current economic challenges facing it.

The Belemaoil board Chairman said: “The great message is that anybody can learn to have the spirit of entrepreneurship, there are many people who have but do not realize that they have it and there are many things to be tried out there that is not yet tried.

“We will try to put in place systems and structures to elevate that because the way Nigeria is today we need to innovate. In fact, we need to build our entrepreneurial capacity to get Nigeria out of the current economic difficulties facing the country.

“In fact, we have to be at pace with where the world is going, we cannot just lack behind, there is a lot out there we need to learn and move forward.”

Osayande, who is a Fellow of the Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), promised to bring his wealth of experience in the oil and gas industry to bear in building academic entrepreneurship capacity of the institution in order to stimulate creativity, self-reliance and business enterprise that would engender economic prosperity among young graduands.

He said: “I had already had tremendous interaction with various members of the board, I have a deep industry background, I am interested in the academia, I have an affinity in interaction with the academics.

“So, I will help to bring about what happens in the industry to the purview of what happens in the academia and hope to be able to contribute in building the bridge between the town and the gown.”
