2019 FCT AITEO Cup: Prisons FC beat Sporting Dreams on penalties to advance to quarter final
Abuja, April 16, 2019 Nigeria Prisons Football Club on Tuesday in Abuja defeated Sporting Dreams FC 3-1 on penalties to advance to quarter-final in the ongoing 2019 FCT AITEO Cup.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the match was played at the Area 3 football pitch in Abuja.
Both teams displayed brilliant performance but could not utilise their scoring chances at regulation time.
NNN reports that the Prisons FC converted all three spot kicks into goals, while their opponents only converted one.
Speaking after the match, Sanni Sunny, head Coach of Sporting Dreams FC, said he was pleased with the performance of his team in spite of the loss.
“It is unfortunate that we lost out of the Federation Cup, we had a good fight with our opponents but they only defeated us on penalty kicks.
“In the last edition, we played in the quarter final, it is unfortunate that we have been kicked out from this level.
“We will go home and prepare well for the next FA cup, ” he said.
The Head coach of Prisons FC, Randy Iortyer, said he was happy with the performance of his team, adding that his goalkeeper did a great job.
“I am happy that my players made me proud especially my goalkeeper, for saving us from three penalty kicks.
“Last year, Supreme Court FC kicked us out of the competition in the quarter-final, this year we are here to lift the trophy.
“My players were determined to win their game, the journey has just started, we will go back to the drawing board and intensify our training,” he said.
NNN reports that the quarter-final matches will be played on April 22 among eight teams.
The 2018 defending champion, Supreme Court FC will play Family Worship Champion FC, while Casmat FC will face Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) FC, in the second match.
In the third match, Catholic Cadet FC will meet Setraco FC, while Prisons FC will play Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
