Ibadan, March 25, 2019 An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, on Monday, sentence a Security man, William Yussuf, 25, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing air-conditioning engine from his employer.

Yusuf, whose address was not disclosed, was arraigned on a two-count charge of unlawful entering and stealing of air condition engine.

The defendant had at the first appearance in court pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge, but changed his plea on Monday.

Therefore, the Magistrate, Mrs Mercy Amole-Ajimoti, on the ground of unlawful entry, sentenced Yusuf to three months imprisonment at Agodi prison.

“The convict is hereby sentence to 9 months imprisonment for stealing two Samsung air condition engine valued N240, 000 property of Darnic Nigeria Ltd.Ibadan.

“The imprisonment should run concurrently meaning Yusuf will spend 9 months imprisonment at Agodi prison,’’ she ruled.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Ojeleye, had told the court that Yusuf sometimes in November and December 2018 at about 4 p.m., unlawfully entered the office of one Dorothy Obasuyi with intent to commit felony.

Ojeleye alleged that Yusuf stole the split unit air-conditioner engine (compressor).

He said that the company got to know of the stolen compressor when a technician was called to repair the air conditioner.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 412 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code of Oyo state 2000

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Yusuf initially pleaded not guilty and was granted N30, 000 bail.

But he later confessed to the court that he stole the air condition engine and sold it for N10, 000.

Yusuf said he sold the compressor to a scrap buyer because the company owed him three months’ salary.
