Sales rep docked for allegedly stealing employer’s money
Lagos, March 27, 2019 A sales representative, Daniel Oluwabunmi, on Wednesday appeared before an lkeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing N139,700 belonging to his employer.
Oluwabunmi, 41, who resides at No 80, Kajola St., Obawole Lakayana, Ifako Ijaye, near Lagos, is on trial for allegedly stealing the money belonging to Multi-Pro Consumer Products Ltd.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Ishola, told the court that Oluwabunmi committed the offence on Jan. 3 at Multi-Pro Consumer Products Ltd., located at Gate 5, Ladipo Oluwole Street, Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja.
Ishola that Oluwabunmi collected groundnut oil worth N139, 700, sold the product and refused to remit the proceeds to the company’s account.
“Oluwabunmi sold the oil and converted the money to his own use, instead of remitting it into the company’s account,’’ Ishola stated.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Oluwabunmi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Section 287 prescribes seven years jail term for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Abina, admitted Oluwabunmi to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until April 22 for hearing.
