A Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki on Thursday convicted an illegal drug dealer, Ngozi Elom, who was absent in court and ordered security agencies to arrest her.
Justice Akintayo Aluko in his judgement noted that the convict was caught with 1.5 kg of Cannabis Sativa by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
“The prosecution proved its case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt as she is found guilty as charged.
“The defendant is hereby convicted after failing to appear before the court on several occasions,” he ruled.
The judge ordered the NDLEA and relevant security agencies to arrest and produce the defendant in court to receive her sentence.
Mr Akinbote Taiwo, a prosecution witness told the News Agency of Nigeria that the defendant had failed to appear in court after jumping bail.
“The matter was started afresh by the present judge in 2016 as we took the substance for forensic test in Lagos and presented same before the court,” he said.
