2 Indian climbers die, Irishman missing in mountains in Nepal


Indian climber Ravi Thakur was found dead in his tent at camp four, the highest camp on Everest, after he returned from the summit on Thursday, said Mingma Sherpa, chairman of Seven Summit Treks in Kathmandu.

Narayan Singh, a member of an Indian Army expedition team on Mount Makalu, the world’s fifth highest peak, died on Thursday while descending from the summit, according to Sherpa.

Sherpa said his high altitude guides have launched a search operation to find Seamus Sean Lawless, an Irish climber who was descending after scaling Everest on Thursday.

Two Indian climbers have died on Kanchenjunga, the world’s third highest peak, this week.

Hundreds of climbers attempt to climb Mount Everest and other Himalayan peaks during the spring climbing season, which runs between April and May.
