Court sentences applicant to 5 months in prison for stealing a car

A Mpape Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 26-year-old, applicant, Marvin Baraya, to five months in prison for stealing a Toyota Camry worth N800,000.

The judge, Mr Hassan Mohammad, sentenced Baraya after he pleaded guilty to theft and begged for leniency.

Mohammad gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N15,000.

He warned the convict to stay away from crimes.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Austin Urom, told the court that one Segun Ayodeji, reported the matter to the Commissioner of Police, on April 19.

Urom said the complainant reported that his Toyota Camry was stolen from a car park at  the Air Wave Garden Wuse Zone III Abuja where he went to eat .

The prosecutor said that the car was  recovered from Baraya in Wuse Zone 5, on April 23, following police investigation.

He said that the defendant confessed to the crime and begged for leniency.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
