A 27-year-old car wash operator, Uche Uhagwu, on Friday appeared in a Karmo Grade I Area Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing N49, 000 from a customer’s car
Uhagwu, who operates an auto wash outfit in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, is charged with theft.
The Prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha informed the court that one Faruk Adamu, a resident of Wuse Zone 6 reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on May 20.
Ukagha said that on May 17 at 2.30p.m Adamu took his car to Uhagwu to wash.
She said Adamu kept N49,000 under one of the car seats and went to a nearby Mosque to pray.
She alleged that when the complainant returned, he found that the money was missing and raised an alarm.
The persecution said that Uhagwu was arrested and handed over to the police and during investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of the missing money.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 to with a surety in like sum.
Maiwada ordered that the surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The judge adjourned the case until June 26 for hearing.
