Sango-Ota (Ogun), June 11, 2019 A 50-year-old driver, Mr Balogun Sarafadeen, who allegedly damaged Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s poles with his vehicle was on Wednesday appeared at an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Sarafadeen, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and damages.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 20, 2019, at about 6.20 p.m. opposite Progress Filling Station, Idiroko road, Ota.
Mustapha alleged that the defendant, drove his Mack truck with registration number KUJ 874 XU, in a dangerous manner and damaged the electricity company’s poles, valued at N200, 000.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 6(1) and 135 of Federal Highway Act Cap, Revised Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty of the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties, who should reside within the court’s jurisdiction, must be gainfully employed, and should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
Akinyemi adjourned the case until July 1for further hearing.
