Money

Abuja, June 11, 2019 The police on Tuesday arraigned 18-year-old Abubakar Mohammed, accused of stealing friend’s N8,500, in a Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja.

Mohammed of Tipper Garage, Gwarinpa, Abuja, is facing a count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the matter was reported by one Sabiu Mustaph of Tipper Garage, at the Gwarinpa Police Station, Abuja, on June 7.

Ogada said that on the same date, while the complainant was asleep, Mohammed allegedly removed N8, 500 from his pocket without his consent.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.

Mohammed, however, pleaded not guilty.

The defendant said that the complainant usually sleeps on a bench in an open place where people move around.

He said that the money may have been stolen by someone, while the complainant was asleep.

The judge, Gambo Garba, after listening to Mohammed’s explanation, granted him bail on self recognition and adjourned the case until July 3 for hearing.
