A group of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) known as the Bulama support group on Thursday endorsed Mr Waziri Bulama as the National Secretary of the party.
The Chief convener of the group, Mr Ibrahim Waziri told newsmen in Abuja that the support group is a movement of patriotic APC members and Nigerians in Diaspora.
Waziri urged the party’s leadership to consider Bulama for the position as he is a competent person adding that the group is working hard to make sure that the office of the secretary is occupied by him.
“This group has between 15 and 20,000 members; we invited all our members so that we will go to the national secretariat and present our position.
“We will continue with the advocacy by meeting the leaders of the party in the Northeast and the nation at large so that we can have a competent hand occupying the office of the National Secretary.
“This is because APC has been a very lucky party from 2015 and in the elections of 2015 and 2019 we were lucky to have very popular candidates that flew the flag of the party.
“In 2023, we won’t have president Muhammadu Buhari for the ticket again so what do we do next as a party,’’ he said.
Waziri said that is why the party should to look inward to reorganise, re-strategise and come up with new ideas on how to convince Nigerians to vote for it again.
He said that from all indication, the APC needed to inject new blood into its leadership because of what happened in 2019 elections.
“We want a person like Bulama to work with the current team so that the sky will be APC’s stepping stone,” he said.
He said that the group had received endorsements from support groups across the country because Bulama had contributed lots to the party.
Waziri said that the group wanted Bulama to be a part of the APC leadership that would come up with ideas on how to restructure the party.
He said that this is necessary because the party needed to embark on serious reconciliation because there are lots of aggrieved members and that was what caused recent problems in some states.
He urged the party to put in place reward system to acknowledge the sacrifices of people who contributed to its successes.
