A 25-year-old man, Sunday Emmanuel, who allegedly stole property valued at N52,000, was on Friday docked before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of breaking and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 12 at about 2.00a.m at Mosafejo area of Badagry, Lagos.
Okuoimose said that the defendant broke and entered the shop of the complainant, Mrs Aminat Ajelero, through the upper side of the container with intent to steal.
“He stole 10 big bottles of assorted hot drink valued at N5, 000; 150 pieces of small bottles of hot drink valued at N15, 000 and 50 pieces of good mama soap valued at N10, 000.
“He also stole cash sum of N22, 000, the total value of the property stolen was N52, 000, the property of the complainant.
“The defendant was caught in the process and arrested by the complainant, who handed him over to the police,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 305 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, admitted the defendant to bail of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adefioye adjourned the case until July 30 for further hearing.
