Trader arraigned over alleged assault, malicious damage



A 32 year-old trader, Bernice Akinsikun, on Monday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged assault and malious damage.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of assault and malicious damage.

The Prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant on May 5, at about 10:00a.m at Marryland area in Okitipupa, assaulted the complaint, Tayo Omotubde, by beating her up.

He accused the defendant of biting the complainant on the back, leaving her with severe injury.

The prosecutor said that the defendant also smatched and damaged the Itel phone of the complainant valued at N30,000 during an argument.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 355 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Dickson Ogunfuyi, granted the defendant N100,000 bail and a surety in like sum.

He said the surety should provide evidence of a year’s tax payment to the Ondo State Government.

He adjourned the case till June 28 for further hearing.
