Man, 43, docked for allegedly slapping woman

A 43-year-old man, Jeffrey Bello, was on Tuesday brought before an Asaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a woman.

Bello, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of assault.

The Prosecutor, Mr Alex Ibendeigwu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 8, at no. 9, Benji Oyedele St., Asaba, Delta.

Ibendeigwu said the defendant assaulted the complaint, Mrs Chinyere Omenga, by slapping her on the face during a misunderstanding

He said the defendant also threatened to cut her with cutlass.

He said that the offence contravened Section 351 of the Criminal Code, Cap C21,Vol 1, Law of Delta State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Edith Anumodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum.

Anumodu said the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and also reside within the court jurisdiction.

In addition, she said that the surety must be a relation of the defendant and also provide two passport photographs.

The Magistrate adjourned the case till July 8, for hearing.
