The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) says that 1, 000 youths are currently undergoing trainings in various skills in Kogi.
The state Coordinator of the programme , Mallam Zakari Abubakar, disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday.
According to him, 550 of them are undergoing training in tailoring, computer application, computer repairs, hair dressing, fashion and design, aluminium fabrication and welding.
He said that 400 of the beneficiaries will be trained in cosmetology while 50 others who had earlier been trained would go for advanced study.
Abubakar said that the objective was to empower the youth to become self-employed and employers of labour in future.
“Acquisition of skills is more beneficial to human beings than physical money as one’s skills remain permanent until death.
“The essence of embarking on the training programme by government is also targeted at making the youth to become useful citizens by every standard,” he said.
He charged the beneficiaries to be of good behaviour throughout the training period.
He said that would enable them to derive maximum use of the opportunities being given to them by the Federal Government.
