Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) has commanded President Muhammadu Buhari for re-appointing Malam Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff (CoS).

The RIFAN President, Alhaji Aminu Goronyo, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday that Buhari’s re-appointment of Kyari was a proof of his commitment to spread the gains of democracy.

While pledging the association’s support to the government, he said the re-appointment was considered a continuation of strategic development of Nigeria to entrench democratic gains of Buhari’s administration.

Buhari recently approved the re-appointment of his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari and Boss Mustapha as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“We at RIFAN wants to recognise the contribution and great support that Kyari has given farmers toward the success of various agricultural initiatives and schemes in Nigeria in recent times.

“ We appreciate this and assure you that we will continue to work towards diversifying Nigerian economy and ensure that agriculture is taken to greater heights for economic development,’’ he said.

Goronyo commended Kyari for his sense of maturity in handling the affairs of the country, saying that his re-appointment was as a result of Buhari’s trust in him.

He, however, pledged RIFAN’s continuous support for the government and the association’s determination to boost rice production to feed the nation and Africa.

“I am not surprised at his re-appointment because he is a selfless, disciplined, charismatic, dedicated and upright leader.

“He is always ready to proffer solutions to various problems and had provided the platform for people to solve many problems at various times through his open door policy for discussions and negotiations,’’ he said.

RIFAN President thanked CoS for his generous contribution and selfless service to the development of the country and agricultural revolution.

He said during his first tenure Kyari has created a level playing ground for various agricultural organisation, investors and stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to agricultural development and high standard platform.

Goronyo noted that food security is indispensable prerequisite for economic growth and survival of mankind.

He, therefore, urged the CoS to continue with his activities in ensuring sustainable agricultural policies for sustainable development.

He said with his re-appointment expectations of farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector are very high, most especially the sustainability of the CBN/Anchor Borrowers programme and introduction of many others programmes that would create more windows for farmers.
