4.9-magnitude quake hits Northern Thailand

Bangkok, Feb. 21, 2019 (Xinhua/NNN) Homes were damaged and at least 15 aftershocks have been felt after a 4.9-magnitude quake hit in Northern Thailand’s Lampang Province, Reports said on Thursday.

Meteorological departments recorded the temblor on Wednesday.

Buildings and houses suffered cracks in the northern province with some tiles falling down, prompting officials to evacuate, reports said.

The damage included the top of a pagoda in a Buddhist temple.

No one was injured from the quake so far, according to Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

The department said the epicenter was along the upper part of the Phayao fault line, 21 km underground near the quake-hit area.

The Meteorological Department warned residents to stay away from walls or pillars with diagonal cracks, adding that the department would observe the quake situation for two more days. (Xinhua/NNN)
