Four sales representatives on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing their employer’s one million naira.
The sales representatives are Rotimi Hakeem, 27, Opeyemi Ibrahim, 23, Elijah Atoyebi, 52, and Henry Fregene, 25.
The four men, residing at Shomolu in Lagos are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, cheating and stealing.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences last May at No. 14 Shipeolu St., Onipanu in Shomolu.
Perezi said that the defendants stole the money from a company, Debalf Nigeria Ltd. by inflating the prices of some items they procured for the company.
He said the defendants shared the money among themselves but were later caught by the complainant.
Perezi said the offences contravened Sections 287(7), 323 and 412 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Nigeria News Agency reports that Section 287(7) stipulates seven years jail term for stealing from one’s employer, while Section 323 provides two years imprisonment for cheating.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bukola Mogaji, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Mogaji adjourned the case until Oct. 10 for mention.
