700 benefit from Rep. Nwoye’s free medicare in Anambra

Nsugbe (Anambra), April 23, 2019 No fewer than 700 indigent persons have benefitted from the third edition of the free medical outreach organised by Rep. Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the free medical mission was organised in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency at Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Declaring the event open on Tuesday, Nwoye said the outreach, which targeted 700 indigent farmers and traders from 16 communities of the constituency, was aimed at boosting healthcare delivery to the people.

He said most of the beneficiaries could not afford primary healthcare services on their own.

According to him, another round of the free medical care will be organised before December in six different locations within the constituency.

The leader of the medical team, Dr Chira Uzochukwu, later told NNN that eight doctors, including ophthalmologists, cardiologists and family health physicians, attended to the beneficiaries.

“We handled cases of diabetes, hypertension, malaria, scabies for children, asthma, arthritis and also provided preventive measures for Hepatitis B and C.

“We also carried out glucose examination for elders above 40 years which is rampant,” uzochukwu added.

He disclosed that 16 cataract cases were referred for surgical operation while two cases of chronic stroke were referred to specialist hospital by the sponsor of the medical mission.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Uju Ezuike, while commending Nwoye, said: “I came here with ear, eye, teeth, ulcer, high blood pressure and arthritis problems.

“I was given a nylon full of drugs; to me, it is a temporal relief already.”
