The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Kaduna, has on Thursday visited the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin, for accreditation exercise of National Diploma (ND) courses.

Mrs Helen Oduntan, the Leader of the team of accreditation committee from NBTE, said they were in the college basically for advisory and resource inspection.

“We are here for four programmes; ND Accounting, ND Computer Science, ND Library Science and ND Mass Communication Science

“There are various groups from NBTE that will carry out the assessment of the institution,” Oduntan said.

The team leader appreciated the management attitude to education and for their effort to join NBTE.

“There are lots of advantages for any institution that join NBTE, among is the professional knowledge that the students will benefit before graduating.

“They will also have an opportunity of owing a qualified and standard certificate,” she said.

The Provost of the College, Dr Olokoba Abdullahi, said that ND courses will improve the status of the institution and the certificate will be nationally and internationally acknowledged.

“The only way to achieve our aim is to team up with a recognised body like NBTE, Kaduna,” he said.

Olokoba however appealed to the team to consider their request in a positive and accelerated manner.

Hajiya Sa’adatu Kawu, the state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, said that the college was established to produce middle level manpower since inception in 1992.

The commissioner, who was represented by Mr David Oguntunde, the director of Continuous Education, said that the state was happy that the Executive Secretary of the Board will make things happen.

“This development is in line with the aspiration of the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, who has magnanimously approved for the release of substantial amount of money for this accreditation exercise,” the commissioner said.

Kawu pledged to cooperate with NBTE and make things easy and achievable.
