Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has said that he will install a village head for the Tiv community in the state, before end of  his tenure in June.

The governor made the pledge in Lafia on Thursday when he met with Tiv leaders in the state.

He also promised them a comprehensive secondary school, to be located in Imon in Obi Local Government Area of the state.

He said the gesture was to satisfy the  community’s yearning for a recognised traditional stool and to assure them that they would always be treated equal like other ethnic groups in the state.

He, however, urged them to come out en masse on Saturday and vote for all All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

He said their votes would appreciate APC leadership both at the national and state levels and sustain dividends of democracy by the party.

He assured them that if elected to represent Nasarawa South Senatorial Zone, he would offer quality representation to the Tivs and other ethnic groups in the zone.

Responding, Mr Boniface Ifer, President of Tiv Development Association (TIDA) in Nasarawa State who spoke on behalf of the Tiv community thanked the governor for the pledges.

He said the gesture would encourage eligible TIV voters to come out on Saturday and vote for candidates of their choice.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NNN) reports that Al-Makura is contesting the Nasarawa South Senatorial Zone on the platform of APC. (NNN)
