APC lauds appointment of new Chairman, Ondo Council of Obas



The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the appointment of the Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan, as the Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas as noble and appropriate.

The party, which made this commendation in a statement issued in Akire on Wednesday also lauded Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for considering experience and versatility above sentiments in making the appointment.

Mr Alex Kalejaye, the state Publicity Secreyary of the APC signed the statement.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that Akeredolu had on Tuesday, dissolved the council following the expiration of the two-year tenure of Oba Akadiri Momoh, the Olukare of Ikare as the chairman of the council.

He, also on the same day, approved the reconstitution of the council and appointed Oba Akinruntan as its new chairman for a period of two years.

According to Kalejaye, the traditional institution has much contributions to make to the quest for peace, security and development of the state.

“The importance of the royal fathers’ wealth of experience cannot be over-emphasised.
Oba Akinruntan has the experience, the exposure and uncommon administrative capacity to lead the institution.

“Ondo State APC notes that the monarch has a well-defined and cherished personality that cannot be ignored both within and outside the state,” he said.

The publicity secretary urged the new chairman to use the position to further emphasise the non-partisan status of the revered institution.

According to him, all the traditional rulers in the state should work together and support measures and programmes of the state government geared towards sustainable peace and progress of the state.

“We urge the Olugbo to use his new office to enhance the tradition and culture of our people, with a view to keeping to ensure unity among the obas in the state and in Yorubaland.

“The APC also lauds the former chairman, Oba Akadiri Momoh, the Olukare of Ikare, with his team for all that were achieved under his leadership,” he said.
