Army urges Niger communities to be security conscious

The Nigerian Army has urged communities in Niger to be security conscious and report suspicious persons, movement and objects to security agencies near them.

Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) made the call while inaugurating a one day free medical services for Shatta community in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger.

Buratai, who was represented by Brig. Gen. Gideon Ajetumobi, said that the free medical outreach for the community was part of exercise to mark the 2019 Nigerian Army Day Celebrations.

He said that Nigerians must collaborate with the security agencies to secure lives and property.

“Security is not one person’s business or that of one organisation but the business of all of us.

“You should be able to know who comes and goes out of your community.

“You all and other communities in Niger state must always be at alert to report suspicious persons, movement and objects to the army or security agency close to you.

“This is the only way we can secure our country,” he said.

The COAS said that the exercise would promote people health and foster military civil relationship.

Also, Malam Abubakar Kali, Village Head of the community, said that the gesture would go a long way in helping those who could not access health facility due to financial constraints.

Kali commended the army for the programme and prayed God to reward them.

Similarly, Mrs Kingsley Amarachi, a beneficiary who got free mosquito net lauded the army for the gesture.

The exercise featured general consultation, blood pressure check and blood sugar check.
