Austrian cross-country skier gets life ban for doping

Austrian anti-doping agency (OeADR)  on Thursday said Johannes Duerr, a cross-country skier, has been given a life ban for repeat of doping offences.

The OeADR reached its decision in September, but did not announce it until Duerr’s four-week window to appeal expired.

Duerr, 32, tested positive for the blood booster, EPO, at the Sochi 2014 Olympics and was banned.

He then acted a whistleblower which led to the ongoing investigation on a doping ring centering on a German doctor who was detained in February along with his aid.

The probe also revealed that Duerr had continued to dope after his return to the sport, and he was suspended in March.

Munich prosecutors said in March that the probe had brought to light a client list of 21 athletes from eight countries.
