Bar attendant allegedly steals N500,000

The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a 24 -year-old bar attendant, Ezekiel Ugbogu, who allegedly stole N500, 000 from his employer.

 

Ugbogu, a resident of Abebi Close, off Olatunji Street, Ojota, Lagos, appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court on a count charge of theft, but he pleaded not guilty.

 

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, Ugbogu stole the sum on Feb. 17 from his employer, Real Daniel Bar located on Emmanuel Street, Ojota.

 

 

“He collected N500, 000 being proceeds from sales in the bar in December 2018 and January 2019, but failed to remit the money.

 

“He claimed to have invested the money in a business.

 

“The case was reported to the police, and he was arrested,’’ Ihiehie said.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that  stealing from one’s employer contravenes Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and punishable with seven years’ imprisonment.

 

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

 

She adjourned the case until March 25 for mention.
