A 29-year-old man, Ayuba Aud, who allegedly received stolen soft drinks worth N48,000, on Tuesday appeared in a Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja.
The police charged Ayuba, who resides in Karu Village, Abuja, with receiving stolen property, an offence he denied committing.
The Prosecutor, Vincent Osuji, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Mary Ogobuegwu, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Nov. 11.
Osuji alleged that 22-year-old man, Suleiman Kamalu and two others trespassed into the complainant’s business premises and stole some soft drinks.
The drinks, he said, include, 16 packs of pet gold drink, five packets of mama Big Coke, Energy drinks and two packs of 5alive, all valued at N48,000.
During police investigation, he alleged that the suspects confessed to selling the stolen drinks to the defendant.
Osuji said that when the police got to the defendant’s house, some of the stolen drinks were recovered from him.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Abdullahi Jibrin, ordered the defendant to deposit N18,500 in the court.
Jibrin adjourned the case until Nov. 27 for hearing.
