Carpenter, 23, jailed 6 months for housebreaking

A Jos Chief Magistrate’s court on Monday sentenced a 23-year-old carpenter, Ahmed Aliyu, to six months imprisonment for house breaking, mischief and attempted theft.

Chief Magistrate Adar Baraje convicted Aliyu after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of house breaking, mischief and attempted theft.

Baraje, however, gave the convict an option of N8,000 fine for the three charges.

Earlier, the Police prosecutor,  Inspt. Labaran Ahmed, had told the court that the case was reported by Sgt. Ahmed Zakari, on May 20.

He quoted Zakari as saying that at 3 p.m. on the said date, he received a call from his neighbour who

accused Aliyu of breaking into his room and destroying the locks of his boxes which he ransacked before he was arrested in the act.

The accused person, during Police investigation, confessed to committong the crime.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 57, 313 and 336 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
