A cleric, Alhaji Ambali Rabiu-Olugbaye, has advised Muslim faithful to imbibe the spirit and lessons of Eid-el Kabir by making sacrifices and remaining firm in the submission to God’s will for their lives.

Rabiu-Olugbaye, Chief Imam, Yoruba Muslims Community Mosque, Tunga-Maje, near Zuba in Abuja, gave the advice at Eid-el Kabir praying ground in Abuja on Sunday.

He emphasised the need for mutual respect among people, urging everyone to show mercy and kindness to people during the festival.

According to the cleric, the Eid-el Kabir festival is about sharing, giving, supplications, respecting humanity, showing mercy and kindness to people and generally preserving mankind.

He said that the lessons should be imbibed by Muslims and all Nigerians, not only during the period of festival, but at all times.

Rabiu-Olugbaye urged Muslims to share meat and other food items with their poor neighbours who could not afford to buy rams and food for the celebration.

“It is very important for Muslims to embrace the spirit of sharing and generosity because Allah blesses those who assist and share with the indigents,’’ the cleric said.

He recalled that Eid-el Kabir originated from the days of Prophet Ibrahim, who was called upon by God to sacrifice his only son, Ishmael, to Him.

“The request came in frequent visions and dreams and Prophet Ibrahim, being God-fearing, decided to fulfill the demand.

“In spite of the fact that Ishmael knew that he was to be slaughtered as sacrifice to Allah, he made no move to run away, thus resigning himself to the will of Almighty Allah.

“Miraculously, Allah provided a ram for Ibrahim to replace Ishmael just before the sacrifice,” he recalled, quoting the Quran.
