Codefest International organises Easter Boot Camp for children




Lagos, April 9, 2018 Codefest International on Tuesday said it would organise Boot Camps for children from  five to 15 years old to create awareness of emerging technologies among them.

Mr Moss Uromtah, Founder, Codefest International, who made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, said that the goal was to unlock the creative power and innovation of the young ones.

According to Uromtah, it is also to show how experimental learning can enable technology products emerge from any class (primary, secondary or tertiary), if given the right environment and support.

Uromtah said that Codefest International was into partnership with FourPointZero (FPZ) – Design and Prototype Centre of Engineering Staff College India and 3Di School Programme, New Zealand.

He said that the partnership sought to foster cooperation on digital transformation in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education across Nigeria and Africa.

“The broad educational objective of Codefest International is to take innovation to schools and industries through the concept of innovation labs for primary and secondary schools.

“To tertiary schools using emerging technologies to help industries tap skills required for the industry.

“As a way of creating awareness on these emerging technologies, we are hosting an event tagged – Easter Coding Boot Camp for kids between five and 15 years old.

“The bootcamp will also feature Hackathon and the best team will go home with awards,’’ Uromtah said.

He said that during the Boot Camp, using virtual reality, computer programming tools, robotics tools and Internet of Things (IoT) tools, the participants would interact with the tools and instructors.

According to him, the children will be able to build their concepts into products that would be a prototype of their imagination.

Uromtah said that on the Expo Day there would be a challenge for all the students and the best team will be rewarded.

“The products they have developed will be exhibited on the demo day and crowd donations can be received on their behalf,’’ he said.

The Codefest International founder said that 30 children were expected to attend  the event at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Festac, a suburb of Lagos, from April 15 to April 26, with the grand finale on April 27.

According to him, for beginners, they will focus on basic level but good enough to create real product or project outcomes that can be exhibited by teams.

“We are also inviting partners, sponsors for kids to participate in the Boot Camp as well as all stakeholders in the educational sectors, government and private stakeholders to support and grace the event,’’ he said.

NNN reports that Codefest International is a software coding and application contest across institutions in Nigeria where students come together and use technology to transform ideas into reality within 48 hours.

The participants would be housed with all they require and engage in the objective task to develop software technology of enterprise value.

The programme include: coding with scratch, robotics, IoT, animation, mobile gaming, scratch games competition puzzles, maze, song, movie, video, among others.
