The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has announced the immediate shutting down of Ahmadu Bello Stadium and other sporting facilities within Northwest Zone as a result of the fast spreading Coronavirus (COVID-19).
This is contained in a statement signed by the ministry’s Zonal Coordinator, Abdullahi Idris, made available to Nigeria News Agency on Wednesday in Kaduna.
“Following the order by Government at all levels and in prevention of the deadly pandemic which is threatening humanity and existence as we have come to know it, we are shutting the gates of Ahmadu Bello Stadium to all activities,” it stated.
The statement advised all athletes and residents in the Northwest to ensure they embrace social distancing, proper respiratory hygiene as well as hand washing to frustrate the deadly virus from winning.
“We also remind all that exercising contributes to overall health as well as boosting of immunity, hence, they should endeavour to engage in exercise daily within their homes,” it advised.
The Zonal office commended Gov. Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State for the bold steps taken to prevent the virus from spreading to Kaduna state, while calling on citizens to obey the orders and advises announced by government.
“We are optimistic that this situation will come to an end and will be looking forward to welcoming you back to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna for resumption of sporting and social activities,”
