Council boss says will revamp cassava processing industry to boost food security



Alhaji Abubakar Abbas, the Chairman, Wamba Local Government Area, Nasarawa State says the council will revamp the cassava processing industry to boost food security and its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Abbas made this known on Tuesday while fielding questions from newsmen in Lafia.

He said that revamping of the area’s cassava processing industry would not only boost food security but would also improve the revenue base of the area and the government at large.

“Wamba Local Government Area is an agrarian society; that is why my administration will continue to accord premium to agricultural sector in ensure food security.

“Revamping the cassava processing industry will also provide employment opportunities to my people and improve their standard of living.

“It will also boost the socio-economic development of the area, the state and the country at large .

“As no society can live comfortably without agriculture, agriculture is the major source of livelihood of every family, nation and its importance cannot be overemphasised to the development of any society,” he said.

Abbas said that his administration would continue to give topmost priority to the protection of lives and property.

He commended traditional rulers and security agents and his people for ensuring that peace prevailed in the area.

The chairman assured the staff and people of the area of his continued commitment to ensure prompt payment of salaries and provision of other infrastructural facilities.

Abbas commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his developmental initiatives, especially in the area of agriculture, youths and women empowerment, education, health among others.

He urged the people of the area and Nigerians to continue to pray for the peace and unity of the country, adding that no nation could achieve meaningful progress and development without peace.
