Country Coordinator, OFAB, urges FG to intensify efforts toward research funding

Dr Rose Gidado, the Country Coordinator, Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) has urged Federal Government to intensify efforts toward funding Research and Development (R&D).

She made the call in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NNN) on Friday in Abuja.

According to her, such action will fast-tract the efforts of the nation toward self-reliance.

The coordinator noted that research and development served as bed-rock and driving force for national development.

She added that “all we need is dedicated funding and infrastructure. Funding research and development is critical to the economy of every nation.

“This is one of the things scientists are calling on government to look into and act fast.”

Gidado, however, commended the efforts of the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, for creating National Research Innovation Fund.

She said “infact, the minister is doing his best to see that special fund is set aside for research and development to assist Nigerian scientists to venture into many activities.’’

The coordinator urged Federal Government to improve power supply, adding that research and development could only flourish where there was steady power supply. (NNN)
