Court discharges vagrant charged with wandering

A Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Friday discharged and acquitted a 20-year-old man, Bashir Saminu, charged with wandering and constituting public nuisance.

The police charged Saminu with public nuisance, an offence he denied.

Magistrate Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, discharged Saminu following an application by the prosecution,  Peter Ejike,  to withdraw the First Information Report (FIR), charge sheet against him.

Iheme-Nwosu discharged him and sternly warned him to be of good conduct.

The prosecutor, Peter Ejike told the court that a Surveillance Patrol Team attached to Wuse Zone 3 Police Station while on patrol at about 1am, on Jan. 18, arrested Saminu at a black spot.

Ejike said Saminu who was arrested in a canal under Wuse Zone 4 Bridge, could not give any reason why he was there.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 183 of the Penal Code.
