Court remands 2 men for allegedly snatching woman’s purse

A Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Monday ordered that a carpenter, Isiaka Gbaglebo and a vagrant, Suraju Hassan, be remanded in prison for allegedly for snatching a woman’s purse.

The police charged Gbaglebo, 32, a resident of Karmo Last gate and Hassan, 39, of Ereke junction Karmo, Abuja, with three counts of joint act, theft and belonging to gang of thieves.

The judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, adjourned the case until March 8, for hearing.

The prosecution counsel, Mrs Ukagha Ijeoma, informed the court that one Jessica Audu of Karmo by Chief Palace, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Feb 19.

Ijeoma alleged that at about 6:20 p.m., the defendants and another at large, accosted the complainant on her way from the Karmo market and snatched her phone and purse  containing N350.

Ijeoma, alleged that the defendants belonged to a gang of thieves who snatch women’s purses on market days.

She said that during police investigation the defendants confessed to the crime.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened  the provisions of sections 79, 306 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NNN)
