Court remands man over N5,000, phone theft

A Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Tuesday remanded a 24-year-old man, Oluseyi Raymond, who admitted stealing N5,000 and two  phones worth N40,000.

The Magistrate, Mr T. A. Anjorin-Ajose, remanded Raymond  after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Anjorin-Ajose said that Raymond should remain in a custodial centre pending review of the facts of the case and sentencing.

He adjourned the case  until Jan. 20 for review of the facts and sentencing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ajaga Agboko,  told the court that the defendant committed the offences with two others still at large, on Jan. 2 at Kings College Junction by Broad Street, Lagos Island.

Agboko said that the defendant attacked the complainant,  Mr Ramson Lohuane-Nimmyel, and collected his Tecno and Nokia phones as well as his  N5,000.

“Some policemen on patrol in the area were able to catch  the defendant,  while his accomplices escaped,” the prosecutor said.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that stealing and conspiracy respectively contravene sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
