A Kabusa Grade I Area Court on Wednesday ordered that a 27 year-old scavenger, Rabiu Ado, who allegedly attempted to steal a cell phone, be remanded in a correctional facility, pending bail applications.
The police charged Ado, who resides in Apo with criminal conspiracy and theft.
The Judge, Ibrahim Kagarko, who gave the order, adjourned the case until Oct. 28, for formal hearing in the bail application.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that Mr Emmanuel Eze, who resides at Apo Resettlement, Abuja, reported the case at the Garki Police FCT.
Lawal alleged that the defendant, with one other at large, criminally conspired and stole the complainant’s cell phone from his the pocket while waiting to board a tricycle by Apo bridge.
The offence, he added, contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.
After the charges were read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
