Abuja, March 8, 2019 A Karshi Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 24-year-old man, Ikechukwu Ukwu, to four months in prison for stealing an Infinix Hot cell pho, valued at N55,000,.

The convict, who claims to be a mechanic and resides at Mararaba, Nasarawa State, had pleaded guilty to theft.

The Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N10, 000 and warned him to desist from committing crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju,  told the court that one Cyril Emehelu of Jikwoyi Phase 4, Abuja reported at the matter at the Karu police station on Feb. 14.

He said that the complainant alleged that, on same date, the defendant dishonestly stole an Infinix Hot cell phone, valued at N55,000 belonging to his sister,  Juliet Emehelu.

Adeyanju informed the court that during police investigation and interrogation, the stolen phone was recovered from the defendant and he could not give satisfactory answer to how he came about with the phone.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
