A Grade I Area Court Karshi, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a mechanic, Aliyu Abubakar, to eight months in prison for stabbing a man who owed him N2,000.

The convict, who resides in Karu, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of criminal force, without provocation, voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous means and being in possession of dangerous weapon.

In his guilty plea, the convict had begged for leniency.

The judge, Anas Isah, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N15,000.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, had told the court that Mr Paul Agbo of Gidan Daya, Karshi, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station, on June 18 at about 1.30.p.m.

He said that the complainant alleged that on June 17, while at NEPA junction, Karu, the convict walked up to him, with a knife asking for his N2,000.

Adeyanju alleged that the convict, then beat him and stabbed him on the back.

He said that Agbo was rushed to ECWA Clinic, Karu, Abuja for medical treatment.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 265, 248 and 319 of the Penal Code.
