Covid-19: Akpata wants NBA  key into CBN’s intervention fund

Mr Olumide Akpata, immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law,  has urged the leadership of the association  to key into Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN’s) intervention fund,  for lawyers’ benefit.

Akpata made the call in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday in reaction to the increasing cases  of coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

He said that the bar should  explore ways to  help eligible lawyers to benefit from the fund.

According to him, the aim is to cushion the effect of the pandemic, which has caused a lockdown of courts across the nation.

He said: “The CBN recently took the commendable step of setting up a N50 billion Covid-19 Intervention Fund for individuals and enterprises that may be adversely impacted by the pandemic.

“I believe that the NBA should make concerted efforts to see the extent to which our members, who are eligible, can access that fund.

“This is as a means of cushioning the negative economic impact which the shutdown of the courts and law firms, on account of the Covid-19, could have on their various practices and livelihoods.

“That to me is welfare,” he said
