COVID-19: Ibadan-based comedian calls for more test kits

An Ibadan-based Comedian, Olakunle Akinsete, on Wednesday urged the Oyo State Government to make available and accessible test kits for everyone.

Akinsete made the appeal in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency in Ibadan.

“We do not have enough test kits and as far as I am concerned, the COVID-19 test is just available to the rich, the connected and the very important persons in the society.

“There are people out there, who actually have this COVID-19 but are not showing symptoms and do not have the connection or the money to have the test carried out on them.

“We need more testing centres across the federation in combating this global epidemic. COVID-19 is not a death sentence.

“We need people to get tested, sensitised and have the know-how of overcoming this monster called COVID-19.

“Once you are tested either positive or negative, as a citizen, you know where you stand,” he said.

The comedian condemned the ongoing trend whereby people moved around with nose masks and hand gloves.

“Everybody goes about with nose masks and gloves, not letting us know who is actually is carrying the virus.

“Well, it’s in the best interest of the citizens that the government has imposed a curfew.

“This will minimise the probability of people spreading the virus at large gatherings.

“Aside that, there’s still need for constant education and enlightenment of the people,” Akinsete said.
