COVID-19: Varsity donates hand sanitisers to journalists in Sokoto

Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), on Wednesday donated hand sanitisers to the members of Correspondents’ Chapel of the state council of the NigeriaUnion of Journalists.

The Nigeria News Agency (NUJ) reports that the hand sanitisers, which were produced by the institution, were also shared to other groups, individuals and corporate bodies for free.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, said that the gesture is part of the management concern about the degree of dangers newsmen faced in trying to keep the public informed and enlightened.

Bilbis said that all hands must be on deck to collectively fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I admonished all and sundry to comply with the safety tips given by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and NCDC to stay safe.

“However, I equally appealed to the government not to only patronise but also have confidence in the capacities of our local professionals especially in trying times such as this,” he said.

Receiving the sanitisers on behalf of his members, the Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Malam Habibu Harisu, thanked the management of UDUS for the gesture.

Harisu noted that UDUS remained the first to have donated hand sanitisers to journalists in the state since the outbreak of COVID-19.
