Delta to demolish unapproved outdoor adverts, structures

The Delta State Signage and Advertising Agency (DESAA) says it will soon sanitised the streets of Asaba of unapproved outdoor advertising structures.

The Managing Director of DESAA, Mr Benjamin Adigwe, stated this during a meeting with the management, staff and consultants of the agency on Friday in Asaba.

He stated that, although, the agency had been removing derelict and dilapidated structures from the Benin-Onitsha Expressway, the activity to be undertaken in Asaba would be the first step in clearing up the state of quack outdoor practitioners and to clean up the town.

According to Adigwe, the unapproved structures constitute revenue leakages as the owners do not remit taxes to the state coffers, thus denying it of the necessary Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) needed to carry out necessary development strides.

He warned that, henceforth, any practitioner that erects any structure without the approval of the agency would be sanctioned.

The Managing Director, SVL Global Enterprises, consultants to the DESAA, Mr Victor Umoh, said that the exercise became necessary in order to improve the outdoor advertising environment in the state.

He explained that the encroachment of quacks in the outdoor advertising terrain in the state would deter the big players in the industry from investing in the state.

Umoh described outdoor advertising as a big money earner that the state could leverage on as the gateway to eastern Nigeria, if the practice is sanitised.
