Development Commission probe, Association warns

The North-East Development Association (NEDA) on Friday warned against politicising the ongoing N100 billion probe at the North-East Development Commission (NEDC).

Malam Kabiru Duhu, Director, Liaison Office of the association, gave the warning at an interactive session with the newsmen in Abuja.

Duhu said that the commission’s developmental efforts were visible, lauding the good people of the region, especially the masses.

The director said that the commission had performed beyond expectations within one year of its existence.

He advised members of the National Assembly to concentrate their energies in tidying up the mess in the Niger Delta Development Commission.

The director also said that the resolution, as moved by the PDP Minority Leader, Ndidi Elumelu, was an attempt to smear and dent the image of the commission’s leadership.

Duhu, therefore, advised the legislators from the North-East to rise in defence of the activities of the commission during their resolutions.

“We are shocked over the silence of legislators from the North-East region, who are expected to rise in defence of the activities of the commission,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the House of Representatives had resolved to investigate the NEDC over an alleged disappearance of N100 billion released to the commission by the Federal Government.

The House passed the resolution at the plenary on Thursday.

The resolution was based on a motion moved by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, entitled: “Need to Investigate the Alleged Sleaze and Misappropriation of N100bn at the North-East Development Commission”.
