Mr Olutayo Babajide, Proprietor, Best Foundation Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin has called for special surveillance to check drug abuse among women.

Babajide said in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency in Ilorin on Tuesday that more women were getting involved in drug abuse in the country.

He said the agencies in charge of checking drug abuse had remained too focused on the men, saying, “Nigerian women are also addicted to drug abuse”.

“All attention has been on men, but Nigerian women deserve special surveillance to tackle this ugly trend.

“Our women are getting seriously involved in the act, they secretly take hard substances that are dangerous to their health,” he said.

The proprietor said that special surveillance on women would unveil a lot unknown facts about their indulgence in drug abuse.

“Women take Marijuana, tobacco, Nicotine, Tramadol and Rophenol in the name of what a man can do, a woman can do better.

“Some women in an effort to control weight, coping with pain and attempt to self-treat mental health problems take to these drugs.

“Some use it to boost sexual activism, most prostitute use these drugs in attempt to satisfy their multiple clients, these should be checked,” he said.

Babajide urged parents to show equal vigilance on both the boy and the girl child, saying, “drug is now an all-gender affair”

“The girl child is even more fragile and capable of being easily convinced to take up strange behaviors,” he said.
